When we think about fats, most people back off, as health conscious people we know that we need to cut down on fatty food, however that’s only half of the story.
If Angelina Jolie had been informed about a diet high in essential fatty acid omega 3 , she maybe have thought twice about cutting off both her boobs to avoid breast cancer Or did she really?
Most of us don’t realize how important fats are but that means good fats. We think all fats are bad but that’s not true.
SATURATED FATS UNSATURATED FATS
We tend to see oils as one homogenous liquid like water, forgetting that all things have a molecular structure and it’s this structure that separates good fats from bad fats, saturated from unsaturated fats.
The importance of fats wasn’t discovered until the last quarter of the the 20th century because the technology had not been invented till then. The nutritional pioneer Ralph T Holman was one of the pioneers in this.
Before we talk about good fats lets briefly discuss bad fats and why fats have got a bad press.
A lot of fats in the western diet are fatty acids but they are not essential fatty acids they are saturated fatty acids. They are linked some of our most serious health problems, bowel cancer, heart attacks and strokes, coronary heart problems, mental health problems, depression, diabetes and stored as body fat, obesity.
Even those of us who are health conscious, we have to know that there are unsaturated fats which are great for prominent wellbeing, however the ratio/ balance between these / fats oils is very important.
Saturated fats are the fats that give all fats a bad name, they are found in dairy products; full fat milk, butter, cheese, meat particular; pork and red meats, animal meat fat; lard, some tropical oils, olive oil, ghee, coconut oil, palm oil.
Some saturated fats like HOME MADE NUT BUTTERS are not all bad because its saturated because other nutrients in NUT BUTTER are good , it’s just that a diet containing animals fats leads to some fatal health problems..
I suggest to people that a little real cow’s butter is better health wise than trans-fat like margarine, they both contain the same calories but the butter is actually purer because its less process that the margarine.
As well as cutting down SATURATED AND MAN-MADE TRANS FATS good to have the right balance of EFA’s essential fatty acids. These are called OMEGA 6 AND OMEGA 3.
ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS EFA’s
We know the balance and knowledge are essential to optimum health. The body doesn’t make these fats so they have to be consumed from other sources.
The reason why these EPA are essential to the body is because they body is made up of billions of cells, they are the building blocks that are the body. The membranes of these cells are like the outside of a brick and its EPA, ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS and hydration that keep these membranes strong as well as fluid enabling them to do their work regulating the bodies functions.
They keep the cell membrane of all body’s cells fluid and flexible instead of rigid and unable to do its job. Chemical pass in and out of the membrane cell wall as the cell is getting on with its regenerating work. SO THE RIGHT BALANCE OF EPA’S HELPS THE BODY have good cell activity, good skin, hair and nails, the skin being the largest organ that is involved in absorption, de toxification, protection and temperature control; regulatory actions. These oils help the brain have good energy and clarity. For the muscles and joints these oils get better resistance and more flexibility. They increase fertility, healthy pregnancy and good urinary function as well as many more positive benefits.
It is a global manipulation of communities by presenting them with the wrong foods as attractive while at the same time causing too many illness that provide clients for private health care, starve nations to control social unrest, create behavior problems to later fill prisons.
BALANCE OF OMEGA 6 AND OMEGA 3 AND OMEGA 9
There is so much bad information about the ratios of OMEGA 6 :OMEGA 3 OILS
It is ignorant and outrageous that The American Health Association is still advocating a diet high in Omega 6 oils which actually lead to heart disease and other fatal diseases.
They and their associates advocate ratios like 25:1 or 10: 1.These are still unhealthy ratios. Cultural diets high in Omega 6 and low in Omega 3 and Omega 9, which are diets high in animals fats and saturated and processed vegetables fats like vegetable oil, sunflower oil, used for deep frying and hidden in things like shop bought cakes.
An excess of Omega 6 and a defecency of Omega 3 and Omega 9 leads to these and more ids-eases
Omega 6 is the mostly commonly used essential fatty acid EFA, it is found in oils like corn, safflower, sunflower, cottonseed oils.
We have to remember for cheaper food production and longer shelf life, these oils are not only used for cooking /frying/deep frying, they are also added to shop and homemade cakes instead of butter.
They’re also used in other processed foods.
PROBLEMS CONNECTED WITH TOO MUCH OMEGA 6 OIL
It is an excess of this essential fatty acid that is connected with the following health problems; asthma, heart attack, stroke, cancer, obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, lupus, arthritis, depression, to name a few.
Omega 6 needs to be balance with omega 3, ideally in equal amounts. The western diet eats up to 14 times more omega 6 than omega 3.
Let’s get to the good news, omega 3 found in some green leafy veggies, flax seed, fish, fish oil, sea vegetables, and walnut.
The best source of omega 3 is fatty fish like herrings, mackerel, salmon, sardines and tuna.
VEGETARIAN OMEGA 3
However if you are a vegetarian one of the best sources is flax seeds, hemp seeds and flax seeds.
Ideally they are so be soaked before using to release enzyme inhibitors and phytic acid that will rob body of minerals
It’s good to eat oily fish about 3 times a week. Most of the green leafy vegetable that are great for omega 3 are those that the Lego land mentalities would consider weeds, recently on part of a globe food campaign where we could only eat for £1 a day, we supplemented our diet by going foraging, we collected dandelion leaves, wild garlic and nettles, truthfully I didn’t even notice my period coming on that cycle. Other good greens for omega 3 are purslane, Swiss chard, mustard greens collard greens and kale.
Is a healthy MONO UN-saturated fat, high in Omega 9. Vitamin k, iron , zinc as well as many undiscovered phytonutrients
Olive oil is the best edible oil in terms of palatability, stability, lipid profile, and safety profiles.
Several sources of information suggest that human beings evolved on a diet with a ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA) of approximately 1 whereas in global urbanized diets the ratio is 15:1
Urbanised diets are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, and have excessive amounts of omega-6 fatty acids compared with the diet on which human beings evolved and their genetic patterns were established. Excessive amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and a very high omega-6/omega-3 ratio, as is found in today’s Western diets, promote the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, whereas increased levels of omega-3 PUFA (a low omega-6/omega-3 ratio) exert suppressive effects. In the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, a ratio of 4/1 was associated with a 70% decrease in total mortality. A ratio of 2.5/1 reduced rectal cell proliferation in patients with colorectal cancer, whereas a ratio of 4/1 with the same amount of omega-3 PUFA had no effect. The lower omega-6/omega-3 ratio in women with breast cancer was associated with decreased risk. A ratio of 2-3/1 suppressed inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and a ratio of 5/1 had a beneficial effect on patients with asthma, whereas a ratio of 10/1 had adverse consequences. These studies indicate that the optimal ratio may vary with the disease under consideration. This is consistent with the fact that chronic diseases are multigenic and multifactorial. Therefore, it is quite possible that the therapeutic dose of omega-3 fatty acids will depend on the degree of severity of disease resulting from the genetic predisposition. A lower ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids is more desirable in reducing the risk of many of the chronic diseases of high prevalence in Western societies, as well as in the developing countries, that are being exported to the rest of the world.
Karimahs Cusina, feeding the homeless on the streets of Central London.
By the grace of Allah (God) we have been knocking this project out in Central London.
“Quality before quantity “ is our motto, where ever possible.
We strive to practice what we preach and Islam says in the Quran,
Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – سورة البقرة
“you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy”
Basically don’t give what you won’t take.
As a qualified nutritionist and most of Karimahs Cuisina members are foodies of one sort or another, our standards are high.
We cook brown rice , infused with cardamom, cloves, cassia bark and turmeric, we add frozen mixed vegtables and red lentils, a meal in it’s self.
We cook a madras lamb mince curry made with good quality lamb, all fresh ingredient including fresh garlic and ginger in the masala, and topped off with fresh chopped parsley and coriander for additional vitmains and minerals.
Homeless people are needy not starving, they are often malnourished, meaning they are force or choose to eat junk because they are used to it.
However there have been a number of tiems on the street where they have given us feedback that they think what we give them is “quality” and “made with love”.
“we can tell that you think about us when you are making it”
Some of them know what good taste like.
We have very little core funding, perhaps £30 a month regular donations.
In Ramadhan people are more generous, so this is a little reportage to show you what we do when you are more generous, we do more, alhmdulilah, praise God.
20 AND 30 LITRE NEW COOL BAGS WHICH ARE GREAT AT KEEPING FOOD WARM
10 WARM WEATHER SLEEPING BAGS
63 KILOS OF RICE WILL DO US 7 OUTINGS INSHA’ALLAH
6 KILOS OF RED LENTILS WILL ONLY DO US 3 OUTINGS INSHA’ALLAH
SPICES FOR THE RICE WILL LAST 6-7 OUTING INSHA’ALLAH
Now it’s time to peel 15-20 kilos onions and get on with the masala, there’s other ingredients like olive oil, tomato passata, curry powder, sea salt, etc.
Its Ramadhan, I am tired but I think you get the idea by now.
I believe that Allah test people by many means and because we have stuck to this premise of quality for poor and vulnerable people, this is why this small project has been consistent, alhamdulilah.
Our volunteers are street souljahs, day in day out, winter, spring, summer and fall, I all have to do is call and they come running, hungry for good deeds to obey Allah and seek His Face in the next life insha’allah.

A few of us have had a horrible sore throat/cough for the last week or two. I think it’s related to Allergy to tree pollen. Allah knows best.
Personally I’m getting fed up of it, sore throat, inflamed chest, breathlessness.
I have always been a bit scared of taking Black Seed Oil on an empty stomach and so I usually mixed it with coffee as remedy for coughs, take after solid food…. but this sore throat and chest inflammation is too much.
I did a bit of research and saw that Black Cumin Seed Oil can be mixed with Honey and Cinnamon….hmmmm and I know one of Cinnamon’s close remedial friends is Tumeric/Haldi/Curcumin….add a little Black Pepper to activate the Curcumin in the dry Haldi/Tumeric and insha’Allah lets see.
I have not tried this before but as I sit here, something is going there’s a tingling in my throat, could be the black pepper but lets see.
I made a larger dose than what I need because sometimes when you are not feeling well, you don’t feel like mixing potions.
3 teaspoons Black seed oil
3 teaspoons Cinnamon
3 teaspoons Tumeric/Haldi/Curcumin
1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
Mix and take one teaspoon of mixture, do not have anything for at least 15 minutes.Cover remaining mixture.
Black Seed Oil has been ussed as a medicine since the times of Ancient Egyptian, where it found in the tomb of King Tutankhamen.
Ajenuz, Aranuel, Baraka, Black Cumin, Black Caraway, Charnuska, Cheveux de Vénus, Cominho Negro, Comino Negro, Cumin Noir, Fennel Flower, Fitch, Graine de Nigelle, Graine Noire, Kalajaji, Kalajira, Kalonji, La Grainer Noire, Love in a Mist, Mugrela, Nielle, Nigella sativa, Nigelle de Crête, Nigelle Cultivée, Nutmeg Flower, Poivrette, Roman-Coriander, Schwarzkummel, Small Fennel, Toute Épice, Upakuncika.
There is some scientific evidence to suggest that black seed might help boost the immune system, fight cancer, prevent pregnancy, and lessen allergic reactions by acting as an antihistamine, but there isn’t enough information in humans yet.
…according to Allah is fine to proclaim the charity you do and it is better to conceal it.The purpose of this post is to illustrate and give guidelines to people who really want to make a positive change and who just need a little direction…
Last night we were at an event and were given left over food to feed the need…alhamdulilah it was very nice food may Allah reward them.it wasn’t the usual line up hand out food… as it was so late midnight. .it was go down subways go down alleys
We kept making duaa… didn’t want to waste and food…our final hand out was significant. ..a big issue vendor
..he had literally just been given a loaf of bread and there we were giving him 2 containers of royal naseeb curry….and who had just given him the bread? A Muslim brother. ..driving and delivering bread…Subhanallah. .we are tired shattered. ..I can’t talk because I am mashed potatoes.
Too many late nights doing what Allah commanded us to do…the revolution will not be televised .if you are serious about making a positive change in this world, you could , before going to a dinner event get in touch with the organizers and arrange that left over food be packed into containers you give them and insulated food bags/pizza bag. then you can drive around your local area, looking out for homeless and needy persons. you need to make duaa for Allah to make it easy for you to hand out the food. it’s not easy late at night because many of the homeless have disappeared, they have bedded down. You have to think outside your comfort zone and think “where would I go and sleep rough?”
Last night we saw one of our regulars, getting ready to sleep, outside a church in central London, we gave him some food and had a chat with him and listening to his story and that’s another story, there were 3 other people wrapped up in sleeping bags like eskimos cocoons, as they were asleep we spoke in a soft voice telling them that we were leaving food, we did want to startle them and as we were dressed from head to toe in black like the angel of death, we didn’t want them to react in a natural violent defensive response, so we talk through our actions, so their spirit is familiar with us while they are asleep.
it is a heart touching experience that bring s tears to my eyes, we went to a town hall where i had previously seen a man in the day time with a small calor gas camping cooker, we saw him from a distance looking in the bins, we had to shout after him as he was walking away and eventually caught up with him and his little skinny face as we gave him a box of curry and a box of biriani, he looked amazed and looked like he was going to cry. we saw some youth and gave them one box of each. that night we had been down subways and railway station, it was really ducking and diving and making duass, we hate waste, Allah hates those that waste by excess.
we saw two people a couple that looked a bit tipsy and asked them from the car if they wanted some curry and rice and they said yes but they said they didnt have any money, we said its ok you are doing us a favour by taking it, we told them where we had been etc.
nearly finished and nearly home, in the area alhmdulilah, we saw two Asian brother looked like they were on the way home from work, we asked these dark skinned brothers, they looked surprise and please, shweeya shweeya…slowly slowly with patience and prayer then we saw the big edition man with the loaf of Muslim bread and gave our last box to the Muslim brother bread van man driver. we met an afghan brother ,far from homeless alhmdulilah maashallah, socializing and told him about our Ramadhan wish list and gave him a card,……alhmdulilah all in a nights work!!!
We only do this once in a blue moon but if you are serious about making a change, make that change in your life and step outside the comfort zone, may Allah make it easy for us to step outside our comfort zone, ameen
Alhamdulilah I am aware of progressive food trends and personally know some of the non Muslim movers and shakers, nationally and internationally in the field of nutrition. Some one, somewhere, must have invested a load of money into coconut oil because it has been promoted by the raw food community as the best thing since sliced bread but we all know that sliced bread is not really the best thing.
Olive oil is mentioned in the Quran and the prophet Muhammad, salah la alaihi wa salem used to drink it, eat it and use it on his body. Following in his traditions, I used coconut oil on inflamed skin, like eczema, hives, psoriasis and occasionally when we make raw cheesecake, other wise at all other times I use olive oil, as a sunnah i drink it in the morning;1 soup spoon and 1 teaspoon of honey, rest of honey in water and apple cider vinegar, I used olive oil on my skin (no i have not become more hairy ) and i use it for all my cooking taking care not to let it smoke, deep frying is rare and only then do we us vegetable oil…science bring it on baby !
oil is oil like sugar is sugar….olive oil and coconut oil, all are high in calories, you have to weight it up, what has the best health benefits for you? I know what I’m choosing….olive oil, alhmdulilah praise Allah.
regarding above info, only used flax seeds or chia seed after you have soaked them over night, remember they contain phytic acid which will strip your body of essential minerals including your teeth
I have been around sick conjested people for last 2 weeks and yesterday started to feel like i might have caught something. So I got out my tumeric/haldi/curcumin and raw honey- 2 tsps of each and mixed togther throughly.Honey as well as tumeric is an anti biotic.Honey is mentioned in the Quran in a chapter called The Bees.I my book honey is a superfood.
I ate one tea spoon slowly before bed, sucking the paste around my mouth.I took the rest and a clean spoon to bed with me just in case i woke in the night with a cough,Alhmdulilah no! This morning I ate the rest of it with a pinch of black pepper , this helps the curcimin in the tumeric absorb better but blakc people is a stimulant , so i dont take before bed, this morning I also had apple cidar vinegar and water to wash it down, alhmdulilah, it a powerful antibiotic, its cheap , its natural and it has no side effects.
